Helpful tips for a telehealth counseling session

  1. Find a quiet, private place to have your session. Please make sure there is good lighting so your face can be seen.
  2. Use a computer or device with a camera and microphone.
  3. Using a headset can help block out external noise and enable you to hear the therapist better.
  4. Turn off all other applications on your computer or device other than the browser you are using.  (Safari or Chrome)
  5. Click on or enter the personal link for your session in your browser.
  6. Allow your browser to use your webcam and microphone.
  7. Michele will start your visit. If there will be a slight delay because she is still with another client, she will let you know.

Is there special training for therapists who do online video sessions?

Yes.  Michele has completed coursework and has a certificate in Etherapy training.

Is the video website secure?

We use a url based website link that is designed for medical video sessions. It is HIPAA compliant meaning that all sensitive patient data and video sessions are secure according to Federal regulations.

How do I pay for a session?

Medwin Telehealth Counseling uses Headway to bill insurance claims.  The insurance that is accepted is Aetna, Cigna, Oscar Health, Oxford Health, United Health Care, and NJ Horizon BCBS. Headway will contact  you to get your payment and insurance information using secured credit card payments on line to pay the copay or out of pocket expenses. 

What if I don't have the insurance listed?

If you have other health insurance that covers mental health counseling, you will be asked to pay for the session directly to Medwin Counseling via credit card, and then Medwin Counseling will give you a statement to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.

How long are counseling sessions?

The initial session is one hour. Subsequent sessions are usually 45 minutes. If a phone session is needed between video sessions it usually is about 15-20 minutes long.

How many sessions will I need?

It really depends on what the issues are. Some issues can be resolved in a few months. Others, especially challenges that stem from deep seated childhood problems, may take longer.  After your first session or two, you will have a better idea of the work you would like to do and how long it may take.

How often will I have counseling sessions?

We usually meet once a week. On occasion during very intense times, we may meet two times a week as needed. Sometimes a phone session can be done in between video sessions. As you learn coping skills and feel more comfortable handling your challenges, we will then go to every two weeks, then every month, and sometimes every few months as a "tune up."

What if I need to speak to you between sessions?

You can contact us via text message (607-765-2895) or e-mail (MedwinCounseling@gmail.com), if you need to speak to someone between sessions. If it is important or pressing, call (607-765-2895) and we will try to fit you in sooner, or have a quick conversation by phone. If this is an emergency, and you feel your life or physical safety are in danger call 911.
